A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
We are the pioneers of Sawdust briquettes in Sri Lanka. Especially in the heartland of the woodworking industry – Moratuwa, vast quantities of sawdust were being dumped illegally into rivers, lakes, the surrounding beaches & the sea.
This created serious environmental issues including the clogging of waterways, killing fish and other aquatic life, and destroying mangroves.
The objective of DON’S RENEWABLES was to minimize environmental degradation and preserve biodiversity by implementing a sustainable sawdust disposal system and minimize firewood use for industrial purposes.
There are about 5400 families living in the coastal and river belt in Moratuwa. Carpentry is one of the main traditional income-generating activities of this community.
There are nearly 400 sawmills in the district and hundreds of tons of sawdust have accumulated in Moratuwa over the years.
With DON’S RENEWABLES, we hope to create a cleaner environment and preserve the biodiversity that Sri Lanka is blessed with, which includes the protection of the mangroves and forests.

Biomass briquettes made from sawdust is an environmentally friendly alternative to firewood & fossil fuels used to heat boilers and furnaces in industrial plants.

DON’S briquettes are manufactured from sawdust, the major waste product of the woodworking industry.
A mechanized process compresses the sawdust into cylindrical logs 90mm in diameter, which can replace firewood and provide more calorific value (4892), thus saving around 30-40% of boiler fuel costs.
These combustion levels are double that of firewood and smoke emission is almost non-existent.
As the naturally occurring lignin in the sawdust binds the particles of wood together, our process does not use binders or chemicals.
Official test reports confirm that DON’S RENEWABLE briquettes have a moisture content as low as 10% and ash levels of only 02%.
In comparison, the moisture content in firewood may be as high as 65%, making the use of our briquettes far more efficient than burning firewood.
With the use of our briquettes, companies will no longer need to stock firewood for de-moisturization or pay extra for moisture.
